Do you love magic? Do you love fantasy? Then you”ll probably love the College of Wizardry, an immersive event where people of all ages can become the magical practitioners they”ve always dreamed of being. It all goes down at a four-day getaway held in Poland”s historic Czocha Castle.
The castle was built in the 1200s and is full of history. It”s also a perfect setting for a magical academy.
The experience is a fantasy-themed getaway that whisks participants off for a four-day stint at the castle full of theatrical events, exploration, and improvisation. The castle itself has been transformed into an academy of the magical arts thanks to a tireless team of set designers, artists, and technicians.
Participants come in costume and assume the role of a character, and they”ll stay in character throughout their stay. The practice of playing a character in real time is known as LARPing, or live-action role playing, and it”s basically like playing a huge game of pretend, but with complex, multi-layered stories in a fully immersive setting.
Participants develop their characters through role-playing and clever costuming.
The College of Wizardry aimed to host three of these four-day events in November of this year, run by volunteers from Polish organization Liveform and Danish organization Rollespilsfabrikken, both of which are dedicated to creating these immersive alternate universes.
Their Indiegogo campaign managed to make enough money for two events, meaning that plenty of people can come to Czocha Castle to wield their wands and imaginations to their hearts” content.
While many of these scenes might seem familiar, the College of Wizardry is not affiliated with the Harry Potter franchise or its fandom.
For participants, an event like this is a place to meet new people, make friends, and indulge in a little fantasy.
Though their Indiegogo campaign is closed, you can still check out the College of Wizardry”s introductory video.
Aside from the dramatic setting, the College of Wizardy has also set up a basic premise for the school, which includes five ancient houses and the opportunity for participants to explore the castle grounds. They can also partake in a number of lectures, activities, and events. The program provides full accommodations at the castle including meals and dorms.
The College of Wizardy might sound a bit out there, but it”s really just like any other vacation, just with an added element of imagination combined with an all-access tour of a historic castle. So if your idea of magic doesn”t involve Mickey Mouse and his cohorts, you might want to enroll here.
