A waffle iron hardly seems like a kitchen staple. It”s incredibly specific and really only seems suited to making, well, waffles. And as delicious as waffles are, you can”t live on waffles alone.
Yet, if you think outside the box a little, maybe you can live on waffles. You just have to expand your definition of “waffle” a little. Chefs Ben Johnson and Nick Gavin of ChefSteps decided to see how far they could push that definition, and broke out their waffle iron to create a whole range of waffled foods.
Cake batter? Quesadillas? Fried rice? All totally waffle-able.
They started by just putting things into the waffle iron. Don”t be afraid to experiment!
Mac and cheese? You bet it can waffle!
How about dessert? Brownies, cookies, and cakes can all be created in a waffle iron.
You might want to put a pan under your waffle iron because dripping is a definite possibility.
Pretty much anything can go into a waffle iron. Go wild!

If you”re going to try this at home, be prepared to make something of a mess. Also, keep an eye on the different foods, as they”ll cook at varying times. We encourage you to go nuts, though. You”ll never know what deliciousness you might find if you don”t try!
