Kelly Slater doesn’t just win contests he also doesn’t hesitate to spring into action when help is needed. This is footage from the other day just after @chris.whitey’s wife and son were washed off the road by a huge wave surge. That’s @kellyslater taking off in front of Lifeguard Kala’i Ahuna in the beginning. As he runs around that’s Lifeguard @angelman76 jumping into the ditch, and Lifeguard @bduhay running around on the left. When you’re in danger or hurt there’s nothing more comforting than knowing someone is there to help, and when you’re helping someone there’s nothing better than knowing you have other people helping and backing each other up. Thanks to everyone that helped that day including @kellyslater and congratulations on your win today Video by @spunjah_brad

WA photographer Chris White had quite a scare yesterday as he almost lost his fiance and infant son, Van, to a freak wave at Waimea Bay on Oahus North Shore.
He wrote on his Instagram account: So thankful the surf gods denied @kellyslater today cos for whatever reason he was right there to save my wife and kid who were swept across a road by a freak wave today. Forever grateful to the great man and so thankful my family is alive and safe. Thanks to all the lifeguards too who saved many lives today.
He referenced the surf gods denied Kelly Slater Slater had tried to paddle out at huge Waimea Bay but got washed in three times before he called it quits. When the worlds greatest surfer cant make it out, you know its heavy.
Slater Responded on his Insta:[email protected] thank you! I didnt look at it that way but for some random reason I stopped there when I normally dont and happened to be there. Lifeguards were on it either way and had it handled. So glad all is well and we can (someday) laugh about it. Vans first wave was a huge one! Definitely a WA baby!
Three cheers for Slater!
