Vintage jewelry is appealing for many reasons — each piece has its own story, you can find incredible hidden gems, and often older styles are the most classic around. Then again, it’s hard to find a vintage item that doesn’t look a bit…well-worn.

If you don’t have the time or patience to bring your favorite accessories in for a cleaning, fear not! We found the perfect way to clean your jewelry at home.

First, gather a small bowl, a tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of dish detergent, and a cup of hot water.

You’ll also need some aluminum foil, paper towels, and an old toothbrush.

Cover the inside of the bowl with aluminum foil. Add your mixture of salt, baking soda, and dish detergent to the foil.

Once everything is in place, add the hot water and wait for it to fizzle. Now it’s time to drop in your jewels.

After letting your jewelry sit in the mixture for ten minutes, remove it and use your toothbrush to clean around any small crevices.
